What I wish I knew before my first year of my MBA program at SMU (vB)

What I wish I knew before I started the PMBA program at Cox was the how difficult it would be to balance work and school. I had a rude awakening when I started the MBA program at SMU Cox because I had simultaneously started a new job.

I work as a financial analyst in the financial planning and analysis group for a retail company in Dallas. The busy time of the month for my job is close week, which typically falls at the beginning of the month. As luck would have it, close week always seemed to line up with my midterms and final exams during my first couple of classes of my MBA. The start of the program was a particularly challenging time as I was having to juggle adjusting to a new position and the unique aspects of MBA school, during two of the busiest weeks of my career.
Luckily for me, I was able to push through and succeed in both my job and at school, and now have a better handle on how to allot time for school during busy weeks at work through experience. I know many of you looking to start your MBA will encounter similar situations and I hope this story gives you hope that you too and succeed at pursuing your dreams.
