Planning a Wedding in B School (vA)

It's not every bride's dream – planning a wedding while working and going to school to earn your MBA. Most people ask me how I balanced it all, and the best answer I can give them is that I had help. We outsourced a lot of the time consuming tasks that come with wedding planning and hired my cousin to be the wedding planner. She took on the responsibility of meeting with vendors and planning the majority of the details of the event. Without her, I would have lost my mind.

We also planned the wedding date around finals. I knew I didn't want to study or have to go to class the week of the wedding so we booked a date that would allow a study-free week leading up to the wedding. We took our honeymoon right-away after and mitigated how many classes I missed. Reentry was much easier because of the timing.

Finally, school and work gave me perspective that our wedding day was just one day. Instead of making a big deal out of every decision, we trusted our guts and moved on to the next. After all, all of the little details that seem so important are insignificant to our actual marriage.

My advice for MBA students who are brides to be – let people help you and let go of perfect.
